Artist Statement

As an artist, I find a lot of enjoyment in putting pieces of my childhood into my work. I have always liked the bolder side of the color spectrum and the ideas behind toy making, which I find quite comforting. Despite my childish tastes, I have been told by others that I am not very childish in my personality, so I like to think that my art is my way of expressing that playful more immature side of myself. I feel too often that as an adult we lose that joy and colorful perspective of the world we had as children, my goal is to reinspire that feeling. I tend to enjoy most working with clay and both Acrylic and Oil paints, for their ability to be smooth on the hand and canvas. Once I have chosen the materials, I start by gathering inspiration wherever possible. This can be in the form of colors, places, or sounds, but once I have a concept in my mind, I start to map out my idea on paper. After several sketches and thumbnail drawings, I can start moving forward with my 2-D or 3-D piece.  I usually find myself making many mistakes or things not working out as I intended them to, but since starting my art education I have come to embrace these bumps in the road. Now I feel as though they can make my pieces more unique or even give me innovative ideas on how to improve the piece.
